Business owners, independent contractors and others not usually eligible for state unemployment benefits can apply for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) if their work is significantly reduced by the pandemic.
The program will cover up to 39 weeks of benefits with possible additional compensation of $600 for each weekly benefit for claims covering March 29 to July 25.
The CA Employment Development Dept. (EDD) will begin accepting online applications on April 28.
