Benicia Temporarily Pauses Business License Tax Fees for Small Businesses

For businesses that make $10,000 or less in annual gross receipts

Starting April 1, 2025, Benicia businesses and contractors earning $10,000 or less per year will not have to pay City business license tax fees. The temporary suspension, approved by the City Council, will remain in effect through January 31, 2027.

What’s Paused?

  • Business license tax (including Personnel Tax, Multifamily Tax, Gross Receipts Tax, and Alternate Tax)

  • Business license processing fee

  • Home occupation permit fee

What You Still Need to Do:

  • Businesses must still apply for and renew their business licenses annually.

  • A $4 CAsp fee, required by the State of California, will still apply.

This initiative aims to support small businesses and contractors by reducing costs and encouraging local economic activity.
